DIGITAL PORTFOLIOS

Digital portfolios are created by the individual students, and are published on the school's website for the public to access. The portfolios are created in the freshman year, and continue to be developed modified and maintained through the student's graduation. Digital Portfolios include:

  • Samples of each student’s best work
  • Written reflection of work, including projects and internships
  • Additional relevant information for personalization

Digital portfolios are used by students:

  • To guide their Student Led Conferences and Presentations of Learning
  • As part of their internship application
  • For summer job searches
  • To enhance their college applications and admission interviews

Digital portfolios bring together the school's three design principles: Personalization, by allowing students to represent themselves, their work and their ideas in a creative, technology-based format; Adult-World Connection, by linking their projects, internships, community service, activities, and academic work to the "real world"; and Common Intellectual Mission, by providing a platform for students to display both their content knowledge and their communication and technological skills to others.

"Key to the student-as-worker model at many innovative high schools is the digital portfolio, which provides the structure and repository for student work. According to portfolio expert David Niguidula, the digital portfolio is a software tool 'that can help students create a richer picture of their skills and accomplishments than traditional transcripts allow...By providing a more thorough documentation of how students are reaching goals, it can give a school better information on how to help individual students and the school as a whole."
